Meet Hershey

We have many students that are doing amazing therapy work for different organizations. Marlys and Hershey has been volunteering with Hospice and visiting nursing homes for two years. She received her therapy dog certification at the age of one year and one week. She has been a busy girl. She just completed her 150th visit. When we visit our Hospice patients we talk with them, do tricks for them, offer Hershey's wonderful soft hair for petting. Sometimes we just sit with them. Sometimes I sing. .We offer comfort and a smile to our patients and their families. We also visit with anyone else who wants to see a dog. Hershey brings a smile to the faces of everyone who sees her, staff included. Hershey has also done a grief support group for children. She has done a summer school program for elementary children. And, Hershey gets on the activity schedule at several nursing homes to do a program of tricks, and dances which the people love. The very best trick that everyone enjoys is when Hershey says prayers. Sometimes it has brought tears to people's eyes. Hershey has gone to a few memorial services for our patients who have passed and has been there to comfort the family. Our volunteering has blessed us in many ways. We owe much to Fieldwood for helping us bond and teaching us many skills that we use daily. Thank you, Marlys and Hershey

In his three years as a therapy dog the Budster has visited hospitals, schools and libraries to read with kids and makes regular visits to the witness waiting room at the Franklin County Court House. He makes a monthly visit to the VA facility at Martinsburg to visit with veterans who are hospitalized for various reasons. He recently started participating in a regular visiting program at the Radiation Oncology Center at Chambersburg hospital as well. In his three years as a therapist he has made over 100 visits and treated a whole bunch of patients. Here he is in his work clothes ready to go bring some smiles to his fans.
